THE DSE DISTANCE CLASSIC
and 5K Race (9:00 AM)

DATE: Sunday, September 26 2004 - TIME: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
PLACE: Polo Fields, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA

Note: this is an inexact location for getting to GGP for travel from outside of San Francisco. Please see detailed map link (below left) for directions within the Park itself.

RACE DESCRIPTION
This year's edition of Distance Classic goes back to its roots of being 12 hours. In addition, the Bay Area Ultra Runners are co-hosting this events. Both clubs are honoring Jim Skophammer who was president of both clubs.

This race has the purpose of introducing people to ultramarathons in a safe format. So you can start and finish anytime you want in the 12-hour period. Runners have gone from running/walking just 1 lap to over 100 laps in this 3/4 mile dirt track. The race will start at the south end of the Polo Fields. Direction will be reversed at the 3 hour mark. Weather is usually cool in the Polo Fields (but September is usually the hot month).

You will need to provide your food as a limited amount of food will be provided at the race (which also keeps costs down). Water and Gatorade will be provided. For more information or results contact George Rehmet at 650-992-9120 or email rehmet@earthlink.net.

AWARDS
Finishers ribbons to all race participants. Top 5 placement ribbons will be awarded to top 5 men & women. A special trophy will be awarded to the top male/female finisher.

If you want results sent to you, include a second SASE. If interested in joining/renewing the DSE, please enclose additional $20 for individual membership & $25 for a family membership (2 or more people with the same address). If you join, you pay the member race fee. Kids race is free & sign up is on race day only.

FEE & ENTRY INSTRUCTIONS You are strongly encouraged to pre-register for the DSE Distance Classic so you may start on time. Complete form below & send with check made out to "DSE" at 168 Melissa Circle, Daly City, CA 94014. Include a SASE for your number & directions. Or you can register at www.active.com. 5K is race day registration only. Our entry fees help the Dolphin South End Running Club promote running in San Francisco. Extra donations to help fund our children's race program and are appreciated and tax-deductible. Race day registration begins at 6:15AM.

Fees for DSE Distance Classic are $15 for pre-registration and $20 on race day. Race entry includes a race t-shirt.

5K fees are $2 for DSE members and $5 for nonmembers.

If you run the 5K, you can upgrade to the 12 hour race by paying $15. You will be credited with 4 laps which equals 3.15 miles.
